This year I was approached to work on what I can only describe as my dream project. If you’re unaware, Provençal brand L’Occitane is heavily invested in charitable causes and in South Africa two recipients of their fundraising initiatives are Vision Box and Green Pop. Vision Box care for sight in schools and the community and Green Pop endeavours to plant trees. L’Occitane approached me to design a scarf that would be used as Furoshiki style gift-wrapping, with all proceeds from the sales of these scarves going to the two causes I’ve just mentioned. I jumped at the opportunity, dusted off my rusty old watercolour paint pots and really just let the fluid flow. When this brief landed we were firmly in lock-down in the cold winter months and all I could think about was vibrant summer colours; I escaped into the paint for a while and loved the therapeutic process of creating this free-flow design. I painted 4 designs and the L’Occitane team chose this one which was my favourite:
It’s a wild moment walking into a global luxury beauty & skincare store and seeing your little design proudly displayed for all to see. These Solidarity Scarves come in 3 unique designs and retail for R150 each. If you’re looking for spoils for a loved one this festive season, a few luxe L’Occitane items (my personal favourites are the Shea Butter Intensive Hand Balm, Almond Shower Oil and Lavender Foaming Bath) wrapped in one of these scarves would make the most wonderful gift. L’Occitane hand creams make the most wonderful gifts for teachers.
